summer arts 2008 CaliforniaStateUniversity—Composer-Performer Collaboration
The Composer-Performer Collaboration: An Interactive Workshop for Composers will take place from July 13–26, 2008 as a part of the summer arts 2008 program at California State University. Fees (undergrad/grad) for California residents are: $819/$1,005; non-residents: $1,836/$2,022. This composers workshop features the Kronos Quartet, pianist and impresario Guy Livingston (Paris), violist/composer Kurt Rhode (San Francisco), violinist/composer Stefan Poetzsch (Germany), composers Howard Frazen (Boston), Jeff Atmajian (LA), Ken Froelich (CA) and Benjamin Boone (CA) during this 14-day intensive workshop. Held on the campus of California State University, Fresno, composers will work side-by-side with professional instrumentalists during the entire compositional process, composing and revising music under the guidance of award-winning film, concert, and multi-media composers. They will also collaborate with faculty and students from The Short Film and Guitar classes—held concurrently—on film scores and guitar music. Attendees earn 3 units of upper division undergraduate or graduate credit. Housing and scholarships are available.
To apply, submit a brief resume which includes composition courses taken, year in school, a list of completed compositions, and a list of performances of compositions; a 200-300 word personal statement describing your interest in the workshop; one sample composition (score and a recording); and completed registration form (available online). Applications are accepted until all slots are filled. There are few slots remaining, so applicants are encouraged to apply ASAP. Address all questions and application materials to:
